People may wonder why I write on here to my son, or write about how I feel because of losing my son. It helps me to feel connected...and for me it works. Yesterday, I read an article on grief and to quote it said, "Only through talking out the past can the bereaved person realize the extent of the relationship with the deceased and accept the loss and suffering. Only through weeping and talking to good listeners can they release their grief and their feelings of guilt and hostility. Experts in grief therapy believe that grief can be expressed best through rites, rituals and ceremonies. The ceremony deals primarily with intellectual concepts and doesn't fully engage the bereaved's feelings in the patterns of community support which are psychologically beneficial."

I guess this is why I do what I do...it helps me on my journey "through" grief...because there is no "getting over it"

Oh & by the way, that first journey yesterday was an all day until 11:00p p.m. Incredible, scared, inspired, nervous during parts of it, but completed and oh what a good feeling. Can't wait to see the pictures I took while on my artist's joureny day 1!

Thanks Tammy...The G.I.Jane was just in fun (totally) for what William used to always tell Charlotte when they were little about being a G.I.Joe when she got hurt! I'm the farthest thing from a G.I Jane/Joe or anything else military related! lol
I need to give myself a new challenge now that that one is over....Something I'll have to think about!

I went over to Mount Vernon's to spend some time at Will's place...and that is so hard to do, but with God's help, He will see our family through this journey of grief. I put some candy-striped roses from our yard on his place, then went up the hill and over to my Grandmother's place and put the yellow roses on her place...Then I drove over to the Roseville cemtery and left some pink Old English Roses from my garden for my own little mother...they were her favorite flowers.
The happy part of the day was that I did get to spend a lot of time after my visits to the cemeteries with our daughter and my husband on Mother's day...sweet comfort and love of family. There is nothing sweeter!

Yes, the organizing is overwhelming, but finally getting done after living here for 11 years...I will NEVER, EVER let it go that long again. Now we shred stuff immediately, pay bills on line, and file what needs to be filed right away, now that the files are organized. But I've still got about a dozen more Rubbermaid bins on the patio to go through! UGH!
Love you too and give your kiddies a hug from Aunt Suzi :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to browse through my writings...it is one way for me to wade my way through the many feelings and grief that has become a part of my life.

I will indeed pray for your sons and am so glad to hear that your son Josh's job will become full-time. I understand only too well your worries of your children. No matter how hold they get, we will always worry about them.

Thank you for your compliments and kind words on my writing and photography. I've never had any professional training ~ only taken some classes online from Betterphoto.com They have helped me to learn more about what I love to do...those online classes and A LoT of photography books!

wow Susan. I think you have a LOT of courage to be honest. I think it's the only way to truly relate in this life. Your pain breaks my heart but also encourages me as you are showing hope in within the pain. I will be "crying out to Jesus" for you-there's no better hope than in His love. Susan, Right after I posted the above comment I talked to my son, it looks like one of his jobs will soon be full time so he hopefully soon his life will be calming down and not so many sleepless nights and more rest.

I wanted to comment on your photography as well. I really enjoyed looking at your gallery. Your work is excellent. I too am a photography though not professional as of yet. Your work is very reflective. Enjoyed viewing your wonderful photographs.

Your writing is also great...you are obviously a woman of many God Given talents. Creativity in all it's forms is such a wonderful outlet.

Dear Susan, Your blog and photography has really touched my heart. I have four sons and thankfully after much turmoil in our lives I feel blessed to say that thus far I have not suffered the same tragedy that you have of losing a child. My sons are 18 - 27. After reading this post however it brings to mind how concerned I am about my oldest boy. He reminds me so much of your son. He is beautiful, has a wonderful spirit, is A very hard worker and very health conscious. He is a dad to three little ones and cares for them on his own 1/2 time. He also works three jobs including two in law enforcement and also works out. He travels very far distances back and forth to work. I don't rest well until I know he is home. The pressures of the world drive him to burn the candle far beyond humanly possible and I often pray for his safe return home. My heart goes out to you. Denise Howard Pederson is a friend of mine and has brought much awareness to so many about child loss. There is nothing in this world that could possibly rip your heart out more than to lose a child. Please say a prayer for my son, Josh for his safety in his line of work and also that his exhaustion will not be the thing that he loses his life over. You and your family are in my thought and prayers. It doesn't matter how long it has been since you have lost a child the pain and the questions remain. Blessings to you! Bronwyn

Susan, Go ahead and write it all out! Continue to write and cry and scream if you have to. At least you are feeling. Because you know what your are feeling and are able to express it, you will continue to heal. If you had no feelings after 4 years, you would be in trouble in a different way.
